I think that kind of read of HYDRA is... like... what Ward, for example, convinced himself it was. But you'll notice that, interestingly, there are pretty much never black HYDRA sympathizers though I have seen a couple of other non-white people be involved in the organization (Sitwell, for example).

I think that there is something alluring to people about a cathartic experience of sympathizing or even redeeming the bad guy. Heaven knows I have a thing for Protagonist/Antagonist ships. But I think that there is a tendency in fandom focuses on, like, big organziations like HYDRA to get prickly about people pointing out to you how it even MIGHT correlate to a real-world thing.

The more you can work through what you're thinking and feeling, the less suspicious I feel you can be of your own feelings and motives, even if you don't have to explain them to every other person you meet.
