New Job, Like Always

Am just about five weeks (???) into new school year, new job.

Housing situation is renting a room and bathroom in the "fanciest" house I've lived in so far under any circumstances, but I was happier in my last place near Nashville. Vibed with my roommate/landlord more.

I'm so tired of picking up and moving again. At least this time it was more of a suitcase and cram-packed car situation than actually needing to assemble furniture and drag my dad with me for that purpose.

This job is lower stress in a lot of ways than my last one. Still feeling that pull to get back to Japan at some point. But then I wonder if I'm just painting that with rose-colored glasses.

I am glad but kind of less than happy. I don't know if that makes sense or makes me ungrateful. I'm thankful to have an income and to have this important step to getting a professional license. I even feel that my job is relatively low-stress compared to others in the past, both due to experience at play and also different demographics of students. However, I feel that this place, while aesthetically more to my liking, is just really, really not conducive to me wanting to stay here for more than a year. It's hot and my rental options are kind of limited because I don't have a second income.

No A/C? Fans?

There's AC and I have fans, but my room seems to be on the very sunny side of the house because there's a seemingly large difference between it and the rest of the house when I get home. There's also the fact that my landlady has the thermostat set on this "eco" mode that keeps the range locked from like 76F to like 80, I guess. Most places I've been that had thermostat locks had it from like 69-74, so this is a ridiculous difference. This is a big, fancy house, and the lady rents out two of the bedrooms with dedicated bathrooms (though my bathroom is across the hall from my room) to afford it. She complained once about my leaving the ceiling fan on when I was at work because, at present, if they need to reset the wifi router they have to come into my room if I'm not home. I didn't mind this until a Weird Incident with landlady's mom the other day, so apparently we're gonna change that situation.

It's better and cheaper than some alternatives but it's just... I wish I could afford an actual apartment while working full-time, but without two incomes that's pretty much a no.

I have certainly had jobs in the past that were clearly not going to work out for the long run.

But compared to unemployment, it's definitely a good step for all the reasons you mention.

Thanks. The housing situation isn't bad and it's been better since the average temperature has been very slowly creeping downward. I'm just kind of frustrated that I work full-time and do all this stuff but can't afford to live as an independent adult.
